Incarcerated

No natural light, screams, cries of pain, the only air comes from a small vent, tussles, spontaneous wrestling matches, intimidation, long queues for bad food, watch your back, hurry up, fluorescent strip lighting blinds you, bare brick walls, metal poles, someone’s lost, crying for their mother, loose teeth, dirty faces, bruised limbs, buzz  cuts, scabs and scars, hanging, marching, no sleeping peacefully here, don’t leave any personal possessions around, nothing exists outside these walls, here there’s a  hierarchy,  rules on walls, unwritten rules, unspoken pacts, fleeting friendships. Once you’re in you find it hard to return to the real world.  I’m in an indoor play zone for kids.
