Wardrobe staples

(This is a sponsored post, though all opinions are my own)

Hi!
All the magazines are filled with new trends for spring and summer, telling us to upgrade our wardrobes. We can't all do that every season (can anyone?!) so I thought I'd share with you some mix-n-match wardrobe basics that I wear year-in, year-out. I find these really comfortable and suitable for nearly every occasion. I found some wardroble staples on the Littlewoods Ireland site, so this could inspire you to maybe resurrect a forgotten item in your wardrobe, or fill a gap with an item that could pull many outfits together. We're all watching our wallets these days, so when you do buy clothes you want them to work hard for you and be really versatile.

I've said before I don't have a specific "summer" and "winter" wardrobe, I wear my clothes all year round, just layering them with tights and vests in the cooler weather, and changing the footwear. I've chosen items here that are breastfeeding-friendly and should suit all shapes and sizes of ladies.

The first is a boyfriend cardigan. This is a long-line, slim-knit red cardigan. I wear mine over skinny jeans and t-shirts, as I don't always want to show my bum. The red colour is lovely, it looks festive in winter, and colourful in summer. It can be dressed up with a necklace and red lipstick, or kept casual and simple. I also wear mine over a tight dress and heels if I want to hide my arms and hips but show a bit of cleavage.

The next item is a striped t-shirt. I have a few of these, in different colourways. I find them brilliant with jeans and Converse, or with a pencil skirt and pumps. They look great under biker jackets and denim shirts too. A really timeless piece. Don't be afraid of the horizontal stripes, if you get a size that fits you they will flatter your shape. Some of my striped tops have scoop necks, but I prefer a high neckline, so I wear them backwards!

If you haven't yet discovered jeggings - you haven't lived! I am still to find a pair of traditional blue jeans that fit and feel comfortable. Jeggings (jeans + leggings) are stretchy, comfortable, wash well, and always fit on a "fat day". They hold everything in, give your post-baby tummy support, and define your curves. Whereas jeans suit slimmer figures better, jeggings are fantastic on curvier figures too. Wear them with your long cardigan or an open shirt if you want to cover your bum and hips. Flats, heels and boots look great with jeggings. Dark blue or black are the most versatile colours.

Every mama needs a pair of comfortable, good quality flat shoes. These will jazz up the most basic jeans and t-shirt combo, or look cute and retro with a pencil skirt.

I had to include these, my dream boots, by the hipster's favourite, Steve Madden. These biker boots would be fab with jeggings, or summer dresses and bare legs, black leggings and an over-sized shirt, anything really.

We all need Converse. If you want to make ANY outfit look hip, wear them. No limits. Kristen Stewart even wore her red-carpet gown with a pair of Converse. Navy is a good colour to go with everything, and will work year-round. I have some of my pairs over 7 years, they look great the more battered they get!

You all know about pencil skirts for the office, but make yours work for you at the weekend too. Rather than a sparkly top and heels for a night out, try it with your striped t-shirt, a statement necklace and your ballet flats, you'll dance all night! Or with Converse for a day out shopping. Let its retro shape inspire you to add a flower to your hair, some bright lipstick or a pair of low pigtails/plaits.
The fashion "rules" are gone out the window. Don't worry about matching colours or prints, or wearing daywear in the evening. It's all about the attitude, remember "It ain't what you wear it's the way that you wear it". I've had great success shopping for clothes and shoes online, check out the reviews for each item on Littlewoods.ie so you can see how they fit. What are your wardrobe staples?
