Summer Days

Best screen smile award goes to JT

All together now... "Summer days, driftin' away to uh-oh, those Summer Nights!"

This summer, thanks to the weather, has been a perfect one! Our days are full of ice-creams, sunny walks, gardening, playing outdoors, friends calling around, evening drinks, reading great books, learning about animals, building forts, juicy fruit, packed lunches for days out, biking, swimming, tans and freckles, funfairs...

Basically it's brilliant! That's why I haven't been posting so regularly on here, but I hope you're all enjoying it too. We took a holiday, more on that in another post, and had a ball with our friends. Charlie's taking part in the local library's Summer Reading Buzz info here and indulging his love of ghosts, pirates and Where's Wally. We have been visiting Drimnagh Castle and getting lots of great historical facts about our area, as well as seeing their organic vegetable garden coming along. Our broccoli has all been harvested, and now we're watching it flower and attract bees and butterflies to our garden. Our strawberries are finished, but for a while we had a few to eat each day which the kids loved. We're having a wonderful time just hanging out together, and there has to be a really good reason to get in the car!

As far as home education goes, I think the more experiences we fit in this summer, the better. The colder months will be great for snuggling and reading and writing, so we are making the most of what's on our doorstep, signing up for workshops in the library, doing tours and visiting some of the sights Dublin has to offer. We are getting to know more neighbours and really feel part of a community now. Meals are quick and easy, sandwiches, soups, pastas and salads are keeping us healthy (touch wood) and we're trying to balance the ice-cream:healthy food ratio as much as possible.

What are you all enjoying this fine weather?
