Yes - my sister and sister-in-law are both hairdressers. But I prefer to cut my hair myself, and have done for years, with varying results. Just the other night we watched Housesitter again and I fell in love with Goldie Hawn's hair:
So I grabbed the kitchen scissors and cut 2 inches off my length, added in some layers and feathered the front. I love the result.
Before this my hair was all one length and my fringe was very separate to the rest of it. Which was fine when it was clean and well groomed, but it really looked flat and crap after a couple of days. Now with the extra layers, it actually looks better the longer I leave it, a bit of dry shampoo gets me through a couple of extra days, so I reckon I can get away with washing it twice a week now. It also looks a bit more styled and less schoolgirl-ish, especially when thrown up into a ponytail.
Rock 'n' roll hair, for free!
If you want to do the same and save serious money, check out the ponytail method for cutting hair on Youtube, I did a few mini-ponytails in various places using 1/4 of my hair to get the layers. I first got the idea to cut my own locks reading an interview with Thandie Newton way back in the 90s, and I also read that Jerry Hall cuts and colours her own hair. That's enough for me!
