The lovely Mia at Boob Design sent me this Lois nursing tee to try out for Summer 2014. I was delighted of course, as I've been a Boob Design fan for years. (See my previous Boob reviews: black nursing dress here, pink floral dress here, teal dress here, long-sleeved tee, nursing hoody and star print maternity/nursing dress here, raglan sleeve tee here, black maternity/nursing dress here, navy floaty maternity/nursing dress here, you could say most of my wardrobe is Boob Design at this stage!) They are a Swedish brand, and their range of maternity and nursing clothes and underwear is beautiful, ethical and eco-friendly. They have some gorgeous sundresses for 2014 as well as quality basics which make perfect gifts for yourself or a friend.
I don't wear many prints, but stripes are my absolute favourite design for a top. They don't date, so you could have this in your wardrobe for years and always reach for it. I love this colour way; white with black stripes, as it can be dressed up or down. This Lois top also comes in red, yellow or teal stripes which are gorgeous for summer and would add a nice accent to neutral jeans or skirts.
It has the classic nursing opening, an extra layer which lifts up for easy access when your baby's hungry. I love the discreet design of the top, and wear this style when I know I'm going to be breastfeeding alone in public and want a bit of extra coverage. You lift up the outer layer and pull down the inner layer, exposing just one boob at a time.
I styled this top two ways for summer. The first look above is what I'd wear going out in the evening for dinner or drinks. Very comfortable, classic and just a bit sexy. I teamed the Lois tee with black jeggings, my favourite and surprisingly comfortable heels and a faux leather jacket. I rarely carry a bag out at night, I just throw lipstick, phone, money and keys into my jacket pocket. NEVER the jeans pocket, you don't wanna ruin the line, eh?!
My second look is more casual for daytime. I'd wear this to a lunch date or kids party, some occasion where you need to be comfortable and active, but still look "put together". I've teamed the Lois tee with a corduroy blazer, a stretchy tube mini, black leggings, silver sandals and a brown leather bag. I put all my "kiddy stuff" into a normal handbag, I can't bear being laden down with baggage. So as well as my essentials I'll have a nappy, snacks and water shoved in there. Maybe some toys or a spare jacket/shoes if we're having a toddler-won't-get-dressed day.
I'm a size 12 and 5'6" and wear a Medium in Boob clothing. This top (like all their products) is made from beautiful soft organic cotton and is made in Portugal. These things matter the more I read into them. I can't be doing disposable fashion these days. The Lois tee is suitable for pregnancy and post-pregnancy wear and holds its shape perfectly. I have some Boob tops on high rotation for the last few years and they still in perfect condition, no loose seams, stretching or fading. These are top quality clothes, all machine washable at 40' C. I know some mothers baulk at spending more than a minimal amount on clothes for maternity or nursing wear. I think if you intend on breastfeeding for at least 6 months, and buy a couple of items like this t-shirt during your pregnancy, you will get great value out of them. I also think clothes like this actually promote breastfeeding. It's when you feel grotty, second-rate and "not yourself" while nursing that you are more likely to give up. Many mums can't wait to get their old body back and get into their pre-baby wardrobe of "nicer" clothes. But a few quality pieces like this will do more for your self-esteem every day than many cheaper items which probably cost the same in the long run. Boob also have a great outlet section here, with at least 50% off all the items. I've been breastfeeding non-stop for 6 years and these ARE my everyday clothes. I still feel great in them, even on the days when I wear a Boob top with my baggiest tracksuit pants and don't leave the house!
What are you loving this summer?
