Play for Paddy
We spent a lovely family day out today in Santry at the first Play for Paddy charity fundraiser.
Paddy Delahunty was a family friend who passed away earlier this year from cancer, and his family and friends organised this fundraiser in his memory, www.playforpaddy.com
For the last few weeks, 6-a-side teams got together and registered to take part in the event today, held in the Dublin Indoor Football venue in Santry, Co. Dublin. All the players families and friends came and spent the day together, watching children's entertainment, face-painting and a magic show, eating delicious wood-fired pizzas, there were complimentary ice-creams and enough sweets and crisps to have the kids high as kites all day!
The sponsors that got on board were fantastic, Paddy was a big Shamrock Rovers fan, so the football theme was a really fitting tribute, and Shamrock Rovers provided a season ticket, signed ball and jersey for the raffle. Other sponsors contributed prizes such as mobile phones, tablets, champagne, jewellery and lots of vouchers and other goodies, sending home 40 people happy with their winnings (we didn't buy enough raffle tickets I think, good thing too otherwise our 6 year old might have had his own tablet!).
The event was brilliantly organised and run, by a crew of Paddy's friends and family, who raised over 5,000 euro. They are aiming to double that in 2015, so if you missed out this year, make sure you get in in time for next year.
It's not too late to donate to this cause, please follow the link here to go to the mycharity.ie's page, with a Visa, Mastercard or Laser. Donations will be split between the St. Francis Hospice Raheny and Irish Cancer Society. Their Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/playforpaddy and Twitter handle is #playforpaddy.
Between this and the World Cup I'm in serious need of some girly time! I'm off to google "Hello Kitty" and "pink hair". You think I'm joking?!
